A Non-Relativistic Argument against Continuous Trajectories of Particles

نویسندگان

چکیده

A thought-experiment is described and the probability of a particular type results predicted according to quantum formalism. Then, assumption made that there exists particle travels from source one detectors, along continuous trajectory. contradiction appears: for agreeing with prediction, has land at once on two space-separated detectors. Therefore, trajectory particle—if it exists—cannot be continuous.

Continuous-discrete entanglement: an example with non-relativistic particles

This article discusses entanglement between two subsystems, one with discrete degrees of freedom and the other with continuous degrees of freedom. The overlap integral between continuous variable wave functions emerges as an important parameter to characterize this kind entangle-ment. " Beam-like " entanglement and " shape-like " entanglement are contrasted. One example of this kind of entangle...

Localization of non-relativistic particles

This paper is a contribution to the problem of particle localization in non-relativistic Quantum Mechanics. Our main results will be (1) to formulate the problem of localization in terms of invariant subspaces of the Hilbert space, and (2) to show that the rigged Hilbert space incorporates particle localization in a natural manner. Non - relativistic classical mechanics for spinning particles ∗

[ψ ≡ ψγ, p̂ ≡ i~∂, and Ŝ ≡ i~(γγ − γγ)/4 represents the spin tensor operator]. The first term in the r.h.s. is associated with the translational motion of the CM; whilst, the non-Newtonian term in the r.h.s. is related to the existence of the spin, and describes the Zitterbewegung rotational motion. Analogous Gordon-like decompositions of the conserved currents can be written for spin-1 bosons a...

Quantum dynamics of non-relativistic particles and isometric embeddings

It is considered, in the framework of constrained systems, the quantum dynamics of non-relativistic particles moving on a d-dimensional Riemannian manifold M isometrically embedded in Rd+n. This generalizes recent investigations where M has been assumed to be a hypersurface of Rd+1. We show, contrary to recent claims, that constrained systems theory does not contribute to the elimination of the...

Spin state in the propagation of quantum relativistic particles along classical trajectories

We address the propagation of the spin along classical trajectories for a spin-1/2 particle obeying the Dirac equation with scalar potentials. Focusing on classical trajectories as the exact propagation of wave-function discontinuities, we find an explicit spin-transport law for the case of the Dirac oscillator. In the general case we examine the spin propagation along classical trajectories em...
